Islamphobia: help us before you help Obama

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib and US President Obama

Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak offers to help United States President, Obama to overcome Islamphobia in the American society.

According to Malaysiakini’s article, Islamophobia is “an irrational fear or prejudice towards Islam and Muslims.”

Settle Malaysia first, Najib

Before Najib decides to help a large continent like the United States, how about you help us, Malaysians to overcome our Islamphobia?

In Malaysia, our Islamphobia is not so much about the religion but the way it is used.

For instance, in Malaysia, we have accusation of using the term “Allah” because it only belong to the Islam religion. We have a high ranking minister calling a Chinese “dirty” for visiting a mosque. We have cow-head protestants going around protesting against building a Hindu temple.

PAS, a pro-Islamic political group was not supportive of the incidences. PAS leader, Nik Aziz even said the word Allah precedes the beginning of Islam.

Former Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir recently made a speech saying PAS has compromise Islam to gain political power.

“Nowadays Nik Aziz allows everything. If a person wants to raise a pig farm next to Malay house, he said that it is permissible because the Quran only forbids us to eat pork. Willingness to allow what the opposition party is doing has caused Nik Aziz to make interpretations which are against Islamic teachings,” said Dr Mahathir to Malaysian Insider.

First of all, we must ask Dr Mahathir this as a Malaysian: why are you defining everyone based on what is acceptable to the Muslims?

One must also note, Malaysia is a multi-religions country. What about caring about the other religious groups feelings?

Prime Minister Najib ask us to live in harmony, to respect each other’s differences. If one group likes pork the other doesn’t, why can’t you tolerate the differences between them?

Looking at these issues among many others, it is not surprising that some Malaysians are becoming Islamphobia.

How do you still regard a religion highly when at every point you have believers accusing you of blaspheming against Islam? Even if all you wanted to do was use the word “God” in a different language.

So I believe that the word “irrational fear”  cannot be applied in Malaysia. Islamphobia in Malaysia has nothing to do with Islam but the people who uses Islam to exert their dominance on other communities in the country.

It is not very irrational when you consider what have taken place in our country in the name of religion.

Before our leaders decide to go aboard and help others understand Islam, please explain to your own country people what is Islam and why are the violent acts above not rebuked? The cow-head protest took ten days to gain a police response.

Are they or are they not part of Islam?

Rights and Islam

“Islam also guarantees the rights of not only Muslims but also that of the non-Muslims,” he told Malaysian journalists who are here to cover his six-day visit to New York.- said Najib to Malaysiakini.

Guaranty the rights of non-Muslim (non-Malays)? How?

By calling us “pendatang?”

By not rebuking a headmistress who ask a particular race to go back to China?

By sending Nurul Izzah and Chua Soi Lek to the police station for questioning the Malay privileges?

One should note that in Malaysia, a Malay is defined as being a Muslim- wikipedia.

I have only one reply to Najib: keep your words.

If that is what your religion- that you have been mouthing day in day out about as great, holy and sacred; then follow the religious teaching.

The rights of Muslims (Malays) and non-Muslims (non-Malays) in this country should be equal or more or less equal, isn’t it?

Tell me what is going to happen when Obama finds out that not every religious group/ race gets equal economic and social treatment in this country?

Tell me what happens when the President of the United States openly questions the “Malay rights”?

Dear Najib, don’t go poking another country’s problem before you solve your own.

Where Am I?
